The celebrations have been happening later than its actual official release date (from my own research into its release that I conducted – which to me implied the release date of 15 May – but what the fork do I know about Simple Minds, right? Stupid upstart johnny-come-lately that doesn’t even seem to like them that much any more…am I right?) but I see there has been talk of the 44th anniversary of ‘The American’ on Facebook and, well, all I can think about is that live performance on TV. Whether it was for the Belgians or the French, whether it was in 1981 or 1982…the clip is prime Jim Kerr “sex god, Adonis” goodness, particularly this one itty bitty bit that has always given me a lovely frisson when it happens. He was sssooo fucking delicious then. I would have happily licked him from head to toe and all the way back again at that time. I had to make a wee gif of the bit in question.
