See, Hear and Sense

Posted on February 4, 2024February 5, 2024 By Priptona 3 Comments on See, Hear and Sense

This is the kind of content that was needed for Everything Is Possible. Just so, maybe, it felt a little less Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill centric. I still naively want to believe that when they started out, they were a creative unit, rather than Batman and Robin and whoever else they thought fitted in with the dynamic at the time.

I digress.

These videos from Mick MacNeil are wonderful. The first, a short montage of tour life, circa 1986 during the Once Upon A Time tour. Although it has a worrying ending, with Kerr craning his noggin out the window of a train. When I showed the footage to the OH and expressed befuddlement and consternation at His Nibs for having his head out of the train window she retorted ‘Mick would have had his head out of the window too, filming him.’ Silly boys!

The other video is a lovely piece of him recalling having seen Johnny and the Self Abusers play at the Doune Castle in Shawlands.

The other thing I wanted to discuss was a new bunch of remixes that have been made by 110Berlin on YouTube. So far I have listened to Scar – which I really loved and League of Nations too. I haven’t caught up with the others yet. I’m most intrigued to hear what they’ve done with All For You, as that song has a special place in my heart. I have a little bit more trepidation when it comes to Pleasantly Disturbed as it is subtitled the ‘Sun Machine Mix’ which would seem to imply they’ve sampled a bit of a live version in which Jim sings parts of Bowie’s Memory Of a Free Festival in it. Memory Of a Free Festival is – quite possibly, my least favourite David Bowie song of all time. On top of that, I really dislike the way Jim intonates the words when he segues those lines into Pleasantly Disturbed. It’s not really something I want to subject myself to. I’m hoping it’s just a subtitle. If not, then it is probably not a track I am going to enjoy very much.

The last one I need to check out is ‘C Moon Cry Like a Baby.’

Sorry for the lack of content lately and the stupid self-indulgent vlog posts. I will bring those things to an end and get on with trying to turn this blog back into something more entertaining and insightful. Even if that means there isn’t too much new ‘Global Tour’ content and more of the nostalgic look back to the past. Whatever I choose to do, I want it to be engaging and fun for people who visit here.

With that said, I’d like to respond to a comment that was left on my blog earlier. I don’t want to post the comment because it contains some things that I find too personal to share (I know! Irony, anyone?) but  wanted to let the person know that they have really given me some food for thought and I feel understood. So, I guess in that respect, my vlog posts weren’t ‘stupid, self-indulgent’ pieces of crap. Thanks for getting in contact and helping me to see certain things for what they are. You live up to your name, you really do.

So, let’s turn this beast of a blog around, shall we?!

I’ll leave you with 110Berlin’s lovely remix of Scar. Enjoy!

P.S. When I uploaded this blog post yesterday referring to Jim and Charlie as Batman and Robin – this was NOT the image that came to mind! Lol. (Saw this on Facebook the following evening.)

Mick seems like such a genuine and humble person, and his voice is so soft and lovely.
I love his descriptively detailed memory that brings us right there hearing, seeing and feeling that special evening he experienced.
    Thanks for sharing that!

      Hi Alise,
You’re very welcome. Mick is a lovely man. He made me feel like a bloody superstar when I met him. When he spotted me waiting for him at the stage doors of the Royal Concert Hall the night that featured photo for the post was taken, he said to me “There you are! I’ve been looking for you all night.” I couldn’t believe my ears. That was just such a lovely thing to say.
I hope he shares more memories on his YouTube channel. If he does, I’ll be posting them here.
      Xx

You are so welcome my dear lady, it is not easy trying to figure out where you are in life or who you are…. The best bet is not to look for approval from others because they are doing their own thing in their way without understanding or taking in the account that it takes all of us in the individual worlds to make the whole…. Plus it would be boring if we were all the same in our minds…. Hold on to your creative growth and experience with an open heart and mind…. I am really proud of your growth…. And I am always learning too and I am almost 75 and disabled, but pushing through all I experience…. And giving yourself the voice on utube is and was and hopefully still will be your own healing tool….
