Brian McGee: A Drummer’s Eye – Early (and Pre) Simple Minds Pictorial

Posted on July 7, 2026July 7, 2026 By Priptona 4 Comments on Brian McGee: A Drummer’s Eye – Early (and Pre) Simple Minds Pictorial

There are not many things on Th3 Minds side that I link to here. I should do more, really. I have bought some things recently. I loved the concept of the ‘Pop Trumps’ cards (a musical take on Top Trumps). I even filled out the spreadsheet with my ratings (someone firmly at Ego = 100). I bought one of Mick’s CDs, have bought a T-shirt. But THIS is probably the most anticipated item for me.

I still love the early pictorial history of the band. I still love ogling over early photos of a certain lead singer despite now feeling less and less able to enjoy the visual delights of said person. I mean, geez – look at that cover picture alone! I was the Bruce of this photo, longing for him to respond to me and him just looking the other way (I say that – but that’s not what really happened to begin with). I now feel more of the Brian of the photo in many ways. Yet… I am still wooed by the young Jim Kerr aesthetic. He was beautiful looking. Fucking god damn the absolute ****!! But even that outer aesthetic died away. All too quickly.

Anyhoo! I am definitely going to pre-order this book because beyond even the ogling of the young Herr Kerr, I love the overall historical element of the book, capturing the early imagery of Simple Minds in what for me will now forever be their hay day. A time I was far too young to live through and appreciate during its original time. And there is even earlier images too, dating back to the time of Biba Rom and Johnny and the Self Abusers.

Check out the video as it offers a glimpse of the images that will be inside the book. Pre-orders are open until near the end of the month, so if you’re interested, the way to guarantee securing a copy is by pre-order, which you can do HERE

I really am looking forward to this one!

It’s a nice looking book and a reasonable price as well. I’ll be getting it.
I’d have thought Mick would be the kind of guy to have thousands of photos as well.
