Lemon Drink (+ Homework, The Overalls) – McChuills – 20/03/2026

Posted on March 22, 2026March 22, 2026 By Priptona No Comments on Lemon Drink (+ Homework, The Overalls) – McChuills – 20/03/2026

I absolutely made the best decision to sell on my Geese ticket and make space in my schedule for Lemon Drink.

It was everything I was hoping it would be. A great relaxed atmosphere filled with people looking to have a great time but not going “overboard” as I had feared would be the case had I gone to see Geese. One look at the photos of the Gees show last night made me more assured I had made the right choice. I already knew but the photos reaffirmed it.

Anyway. As I said, the atmosphere at McChuills was great. Nice and laid back. There were only two down sides to the whole night. One was the removal of the side bunch seats inside the auditorium space at McChuills. For us older folk it was great to know that a seat was available if required. I guess it makes more room for standing but it has also hindered it being a place that could be enjoyed by those with physical disabilities. My legs paid for three hours of standing without anything to help keep me propped up. I suffered on the way back home and for the proceeding 12 hours.

The second was the fuckheads talking during the performance of The Overalls. It really spoiled things for me. Why? WHY be inside an auditorium watching a support act if you’re not interested in listening to them? McChuills is a fucking BAR! Go out to the bar – talk there FFS! The worst of it was that it was a slow, quiet song when it was most audible. I just thought “you inconsiderate pricks!” What was even more staggering was the notion that they were probably friends of the band that were doing it. Like, really? The girl was bricking it. She was the band’s drummer and singer, so for this number she came away from the kit and up to the front of the stage. And these few people were being such dicks!

Apart from those two things, it was great.

Homework

Homework were good. I enjoyed their set. They were having a lot of fun up there. I found myself mesmerised by the drummer. She had quite the technique to her playing. It’s not really a style I’ve seen before. She was very upright and quite stiff. Her snare was waaaaay down beside her to her left side and her grip was quite unique too. The played six songs, I think.

The Overalls were fab! I really enjoyed them. Interesting personalities. Two guys (guitar and bass) and a female drummer – again. Great to see so many female drummers around these days. Not only was she playing but she was singing too. Taking lead vocals at times but the guys sang lead as well. The guitarist was quite the player and the bassist was ‘the pretty boy.’ There was quite the assemble with this trio. They started the set sounding like trad classic rock, or a bit post punk/pub rock, then just segued through other genres, even going a bit prog and folk with the slow number, then back to the more post punk/pub rock stuff. I really did like them.

The Overalls

Lemon Drink were great. They played a set filled with their back catalogue as well as some brand new tunes and a great cover of Jennifer Paige’s ‘Crush.’ Below is my recording from the gig of ‘Demon Child.’ The highlight of course was Patsy Kensit, the penultimate song of the night and the one that got the biggest round of applause. But honestly, every song was fantastic. I’ve got to say that Sophie has STAR quality as a frontwoman. She commands the stage, is engaging, but won’t take any bullshit. She’s fabulous – as are all the band. I absolutely LOVED their set and will definitely be seeing them again. Songs performed included: Sip Sip, Pull Your House Down, Let Go and a Song For You.

Lemon Drink

Oh, as a side note. Between sets (Homework to The Overalls) Waterfront was played – and there was a slight delicious irony that one of Patsy’s ex’s music was played. Lol. The oriny was not lost on me. Honestly, it is only in situations like these that I hear any Simple Minds music now. I genuinely cannot bring myself to play anything these days. I do hope that there will come a time when I can at least enjoy the early stuff again. My walls are still plastered with images of Jim Kerr everywhere of course. If I didn’t think all the paint would come away from my walls and I’d have to repaint my room, I probably would take them all down. At least all the post-1982 ones that are up there anyway. Lol. (Admittedly, there isn’t many of those.) I was always a shallow bitch when it came to my sexual attraction to him.

Anyway, that was Lemon Drink. A great night out. I was even back home before 11pm which is bloody great because I sleep such CRAP hours now. Usually asleep no later than 11pm and up between 5-6am – IF I get to sleep soundly through without my bladder annoying me, that is. If not then it’s usually from 10.30-3.30, back to sleep around 5.30-up when the alarm goes off at 7.30. They are the shitty nights those ones but have been the ‘norm’ of late.

Next up are a back-to-back set of a comedy gig (Daliso Chaponda) and a music gig – the BBC Introducing Scottich Act of the Year 2026 at St Luke’s with one HAMISH HAWK on the judging panel (which I only learned of AFTER I was granted a ticket for the show). I have been wanting to go to this for a few years but it has been taking place at The Arches (or whatever it was renamed) and, you know, just hanging about that part of town after dark really didn’t appeal. It’s bad enough walking along there in broad daylight. Last time I did that was to go from Missing Records to Lidl on Jamaica Street and, yeah… But now it’s at St Luke’s I decided to go for it. I actually think I’ve probably seen more shows at St Luke’s than any other venue in Glasgow. Oran Mor is probably a close second. Or might even be in the lead. I’ll have to do a tally some time.

On that note, tara for now.
