This is a very interesting idea and quite the opportunity to sit along side the three former Simple Minds members and asks questions and generally get to ‘hang out’ (virtually) for an hour or so.
It has the potential to be cringe in all honesty. Zoom isn’t the best place for flowing conversation, you know? Technology has advanced so much, but it still has its limitations and most things like this have awkward moments in them where several people are trying to put points across and it becomes a bit of a mess. It is why I was surprised that Jim was speaking to Billy Sloan from Taormina last week when he had only recently been in Glasgow and at Pacific Quay – he could have easily had recorded something with Billy then could he not? Was his schedule REALLY that full? Hmmm. Anyway, back to Th3 Minds.
So, to put yourself in the running for this opportunity to record an episode of the ‘In Your Room’ podcast (vlogcast?) – you’ll need to leave a comment in the relevant Facebook post as to why you deserve to be picked (on) and what question you’d ask Mick, Derek and Brian.
I’m not going to bother with this. I don’t much fancy being pissed upon for an hour. I’m sure it’s all just “banter” and how Glaswegians are. If I felt I had cast iron wit and could dish it out much better than I can take…maybe? But I’d feel really intimidated by them – especially Derek and Brian. Not so much Mick – he was an absolute sweetheart when I met him. To be fair, as much as the other two intimidate me, so does Jim – but he just has more a penchant for making me feel WILDLY inferior – which is much more telling of him than it is of me. I always felt that Jim revelled in unnerving me and making me squirm which I guess can be a real ego boost but it never made me feel very comfortable in his company – which is sad. For I’d have loved nothing more to have sat and talked to him. A genuine conversation. Just something that felt normal and real. Nothing false. Nothing that made one person feel superior to another. Just two people keen to converse and enjoy a blether together. Alas…
Anyway, that bloody dick is taking over the topic at hand again!
As I say, I won’t be putting myself forward. I highly doubt I’d be picked anyway. I wouldn’t even know what to ask them other than something really inane, so there is no point in me even trying and I REALLY don’t fancy being in a state of anxious cringe for an hour or more.
Nice idea though guys, and good luck to whoever gets to do it. I hope you enjoy it.
