One part of the year is over, now the summer is dedicated to me working on getting Simple Minds: Song by Song completed. I did allow myself a couple of days downtime over the past several days. One day off involved heading to Milngavie for a classic car show that was happening in the town. The weather was absolutely GORGEOUS, I tell ya! Sunny and warm. The cars all looked stunning with the sun gleaming off their windshields and paintwork. There was something like 50-60 vehicles on display. Mostly cars with a few motorcycles and a couple of old buses on display from the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust. They also put on free hourly scenic bus journeys for passengers to enjoy a short trip around Milngavie and Bearsden.

Myself and the OH went on one of the bus journeys which was lots of fun. On our way to the bus, we were looking at the other vehicles on display in the car park there. Several of the classic cars were parked in the car park, including one that caught my eye initially for its paintwork, but also for its body. I’m by no means an expert. I’m very much an amatuer motor enthusiast. But I am pretty familiar with the look and stylings of 1950s and 1960s cars – in particular Australian and American ‘muscle’ cars. This one had all the framework of one and upon closer inspection I saw the Plymouth badge which confirmed my eagle-eyed familiarity with the style of this particular car – for it was only the very same make and model as one of Malcolm Garrett’s cars featured on the Sons And Fascination album cover and Love Song picture sleeve: a 1969 Plymouth Sport Fury. I never expected to see the likes of her at a classic car show in Milngavie, of all places. It definitely made my day seeing her.

It was a great day out and so I wanted to share the photos of it here – as it’s loosely in keeping with the theme of this blog.
I also wanted to say that things may stay relatively quiet here as I keep on writing the book. It really is crunch time now for the book and I don’t have the distraction of uni studies as an excuse to not work on it. I really don’t want to miss my deadline.
Also, if there is anyone out there with great images of the band pre-2000 who’d be willing to have a photo or two in the book payment/royalty free (but credited!), then please contact me. I’d really appreciate it. You can use the ‘Contact me’ link at the top of the blog page to get in touch.
