Longing For European Son(s and Fascination)

Posted on April 2, 2024April 2, 2024 By Priptona No Comments on Longing For European Son(s and Fascination)

Today I tried to get straight back into the swing of things. Working on my uni assignment was hard. I didn’t get much done and the subject matter of my assignment is such that…well, death and/or dying seems to be my recurring theme for everything I’ve been writing for uni this academic year. All my mind wanted to do was wander back off to the weekend and the joy of seeing SM two nights on the trot, even though now that is also tinged with sadness due to Jaine Henderson’s passing. I’m also still very tired and my body feels heavy.

I would of course do it all over again in a heartbeat. Those two nights were incredible. I will never forget the joy of seeing them perform Sons and Fascination on Friday night and seeing a faultless rendition of Premonition on Saturday night. The food, the fans, the company.

So, yes…trying to write a piece of life writing about my Mum’s funeral just wasn’t happening today. Time ticks on but there is always tomorrow. I will get it done!

In the meantime, the band are now in Europe. In Luxemburg to be exact and I am already wishing I was there, seeing another gig. That won’t be happening. I have other things to do.

For now, to help pep me up, I have decided to share the best of the photos I took from the gigs at the weekend, as well as a few other shots from the weekend. Enjoy!

Myself and Sue getting ready to head off to the Hydro on Friday
Jim at soundcheck on Friday
del Amitri on Friday
A small set of Jim and Cherisse during Belfast Child
I just loved the way Charlie’s Gretsch was picking up the light in this photo, the way the lights are positioned and Erik’s silhouette behind CB.
More gleaming Gretsch guitar and I liked the way I got Charlie, Gordy and Ged all in a row together in the photo on the right
The food at Joia Italian restaurant on Argyle Street was top drawer!
Probably needed to take out a mortgage to get this bugger but…I was solid gone when I saw it! I’ve got number 111 of a limited run of 250. They put the rest up on the shop and what they had left sold out in no time at all. Very happy that I got one – yes! As I said on Facebook – who needs food anyway? This is food for the eyes!
Jim during Belfast Child, and Cherisse whacking those tubs
Lights and the crowd on Saturday night
I took the first photo thinking that Sue was ready…erm…she wasn’t. Lol. But she was a second or two later
