Minds Music Monday – Seductively Celebratory At The Whisky A Go-Go, LA – 1981

Posted on October 24, 2022October 3, 2023 By Priptona No Comments on Minds Music Monday – Seductively Celebratory At The Whisky A Go-Go, LA – 1981

I know! I should be concentrating on all things Direction Of The Heart right now. And trust me, my brain has not tuned out of the album, yet. Nearly all the songs from the album are jostling for position as the latest earworm. They are all on constant rotation in my head, playing non stop! If this situation is any testament to how good DOTH is as an album, I need to do some reassessing of my initial review of the album. This I will do in due course.

In the meantime, thanks to the efforts of Ghost Dancer (aka Stuart) – we find ourselves taking a trip backwards to the 8th of November, 1981. I’ve only been 11 years old for one whole week and probably only just slightly closer geographically to LA than I am to London or Glasgow at this point.

When a set starts with Sons And Fascination, I feel it boding well for a good one. I wasn’t disappointed! For an audience recording, the sound is pretty good. It has a bit of everything, this one. A really receptive crowd – they go down like a storm in LA! (I wonder how many of them who where at this gig went to see them the following night?) Jim being a little princess diva at one point, asking for his mic to be turned up and the lights to be turned down. A great mix of tracks from the period – possibly a new pole position favourite for sexiest version of Celebrate EVER – though I will have to play my other favourite “sexiest” versions to compare and contrast. WHAT A TOUGH JOB! Lol. An equally cracking version of I Travel, which the crowd went apeshit over! Finally, a thunderous round of applause from the very appreciative crowd. And for all the rousing enthusiasm, they get an encore of Changeling which is as grand a version as they did in the main set.

I was surprised by a repetition of Changeling rather than them doing, say, Room, or a repeat of Love Song. No mind, it was a cracking version anyways.

All in all, a fabulous bootleg.

Enjoy!

Speaking of TARDIS’s (not that I did as such, but a bootleg gig from yesteryear always has me going on about wanting a TARDIS trip, etc, etc) – the return of Mr TenInch happened last night in Doctor Who. What is it about sexy, skinny Scottish men with reputed long schlongs that I find so appealing?! Goddamn! Lol

Anyway…I’m off to study – uni stuff! There was talk of naked athletic pursuits in the Flavian Amphitheatre (aka The Colosseum) in my last study session so….maybe my studying won’t be so pure today, either?!

*think pure thoughts – think pure thoughts – think pure thoughts*

Laters!
