Between Study And Newcastle…

Posted on October 8, 2025October 8, 2025 By Priptona 1 Comment on Between Study And Newcastle…

I am a week ahead in my study. A trip to Newcastle is imminent, and so in the lull I am allowing myself time to at least BEGIN to read The Glesga Twins story. I’m a few chapters in – yes, some squares on my ‘Kerr’s repetitive anecdotes’ bingo card have been dabbed. Yet, somehow – maybe because it is there in written form on a page in a book – it doesn’t feel quite so repetitive.

I have giggled at some things, yes. I have been vexed at certain others (probably things no doubt others will find hilarious but I find tastelessly obnoxious). And perhaps I can see that….maybe, just maybe, Jim Kerr has felt an overabundant amount of expectation on his shoulders at times – perhaps a result of being “too good” at shouldering it all? It gives a new context to the caption on that Sounds magazine cover with the photo Virginia took of Kerr putting on his riding boots in front of the mirror (ah, that glorious tush!), “Jim’ll fix it.” Now forever tainted with its association of that paedo radio DJ.

Alas, I digress. What I’m trying to say is that I am enjoying it so far and I hope to read some more tomorrow. After that? Who knows! As much as I’d like to take my copy to Newcastle with me, it’s signed and I don’t want to lose it. Also, I don’t know how much time I’ll have in Newcastle to read it. I wish I could afford a Kindle copy on top but I can’t.

For now it is adios for me. I’ll check in again next week on where I am at with the reading. Let’s see!

i feel like they have spent so much of their lives crowd-pleasing that it can be incredibly sad for both newer and veteran fans..

case in point your points about the awfully cringe girlpower stuff (live and in writing)..

they have eased up on the political pandering but is it still there?

i am afraid and so havenae picked up the book.

every pander comes with cliches which you’ve also noted.

    sometimes i lose faith.
