Preparations for this year’s touring has begun with a stint of promotional spots on TV and radio. First of which saw Mr Kerr ‘flying solo’ with a spot on the This Morning couch, the footage of which is only available to view for UK audiences of ITV/STV. People abroad – trust me when I say you’re not missing much. It’s yet ANOTHER tale of ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’ with some “Charlie and I met when we were just 8-years-old on a building site in Toryglen, Glasgow. Charlie was on a mound of sand – king of the castle.” Ya da ya da…you must know the story by now. Lastly a plug for Live in the City of Diamonds, which Kerr described as being “for the fans.” Erm…sure. Or perhaps I should use the Scots vernacular? Aye, right (said with appropriately slow motion eye-roll).
The less said about it, the better.
Next day, mercifully there were better things on offer, although they weren’t entirely free of cringe, they did at least have things that shied away from endless DYFAM talk and the “Charlie, king of the castle” twaddle as well. They also involved both Jim and Charlie.
Firstly, they had a spot on TalkSport talking to Ally McCoist and Dean Saunders. Loved Charlie’s little dig at Jim over the in-ear monitors.
Second was the pair of them on Virgin Radio with Chris Evans. A decent interview, albeit strewn with constant errors, including the continuing mistake of referring to the “it’s for the fans” release as Live in the City of Lights. [Insert another eye roll] As well as Evans calling ‘that song’ as ‘Don’t You (Forgot About You).’ Eh? Never mind.
I don’t know how many other things are to come but Saturday night they’ll be on the Jonathan Ross Show for the first time in …. well, maybe 20 years? I think the last time they appeared was 2005/6 for the release of Black and White 050505. Unless they’ve been on since then and my brain has lost the memory of that?
Anyway…as I say, these were good. Great laughs to be had with the TalkSport interview, for sure. And the Evans interview has its good points. Enjoy.
Thank you very much for going to the trouble of providing those links, pal. The Talksport interview was really good. I feel for Jim a wee bit getting continously asked about DYFAM (he must die a wee bit inside each time) but to his immense credit he always come across as enthusiastic about the question.
And now of course it’s even more inevitable that he’ll have to talk about it with it being the 40th anniversary of its release. And aye, he’s a bit of a pro when it comes to still exuding enthusiastic banter about it. I guess one thought of his bank balance would be all the motivator he’d need for waxing lyrical about the damn song. 😜
And no worries. Trying to do my bit with keeping the blog mildly Simple Minds relevant while trying hard not to be a snarky, whiney, jaded old fucker. 🤣🤣
