That make me love living in Glasgow. This came my way through doing some research and short story reading for uni. I wanted to read about Glasgow and so after a search within the Granta archive of ‘Glasgow’, the first story that struck me was this one – from the author of Mayflies, Andrew O’Hagan. How amazing it was to see his name show up in a copy of Granta.
I know I will never write this good. I’m posting this one for Jim. (I know! You don’t need to tell me how deluded I am to assume he visits this blog. Why would he.) He’ll much prefer to read this than any of my guff. A shame it wasn’t Simple Minds getting the name check at Barrowland rather than the Jesus and Mary Chain. I guess you can’t win them all…
P.S. Don’t forget to use the tools to enlarge the images for easier reading.

Thanks for sharing. She sounds like Shuggie’s mum Agnes in Shuggie Bain.
I’m still yet to read Shuggie Bain. Still haven’t read Mayflies, either. Geez, I wish I could read faster!
