Perhaps….subconsciously I could feel it too? In light of what I was saying in my vlog post today? Go out with a bang? Leave them wanting more? Never talk about that bloody “R” word….
But, there we are! Without him actually saying it, Jim just said it on the Billy Sloan show.
I guess it could have been worse, for me personally. I could have just been getting into them as a diehard (ardent, fervent, “megafan”). It’s been over nine years for me with many fabulous memories.
There is a real sense of mourning I am feeling with this news all the same. Someone in the fanbase kept talking about the “end being nigh” and I would never want to listen to their patter. Despite their protestations of not having an “insider” knowledge, they obviously do because these words have know just being given currency by Jim.
Damn!
“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” It’s never rung truer tonight.
Ah, but is it a farewell tour, or a final farewell tour? There is a difference (see one Reg Dwight). I wasn’t going to go to Leeds this time round, but now? Well, guess now I will! Gnashes teeth and rends garments while sobbing gently…..
Jim didn’t say the end END for this tour…but he did say that there will come a definite end point. When that end point will be? I felt he was eluding to it being sooner rather than later. As if maybe the Global Tour 2024 will be the penultimate or antepenultimate tour.
They’ll never retire in my opinion. To me it sounds like they’re planning to do something a bit different after this tour and maybe wind down a wee bit after but retire?? Not a chance.
I hope you’re right, Scobes – but I think Jim seemed to be alluding to an end to touring completely for them. I honestly don’t know why I feel so upset about it. Probably because it felt like the one guaranteed place in which I would get to see Jim. I’m such a sad motherfucker!
Nah, all these bands do this. They imagine having a quiet life but they’ll always have that ‘thing’ where they’ll still play shows albeit on a smaller scale.
I mind going to see Motley Crue in 2015 and all four band members had signed a ‘cessation of tour’ agreement where ‘that was it ‘ this was the end’ ‘ getting too old’ blah blah .., big emotional sign off tour …, complete bollocks.
I went to see them in the summer there with Def Leppard as part of their World tour.
They miss it too much. Now unless one of the guys is Ill (that’s a different story) but to me it sounds like they’re just trying to generate interest for this tour.
Part of me wonders if this next journey could be getting the original members back together ? Hmmmmm
I can’t see a reunion thing happening. Jim’s too dead against it for it to happen, I reckon. I do hope you’re right about the whole “never really gonna retire” thing. I hadn’t really heard Jim talk like that before. He’s usually very “Yeah…we’ll go on for a good while yet. We love touring too much.” But it really wasn’t how he was sounding when talking to Billy. He said “All great journeys have to end at some point. We don’t want to just peter out.”
