First off is Holyrood High showing off its new piano which a “substantial donation” from Jim and Charlie afforded the school to get a higher standard of kit than they were initially able to target themselves. It’s been imaginatively decorated, extolling the talent that has emerged from the city and surrounds over the decades with a great typographic style. Congrats to Holyrood!
Secondly is the news of Neapolis being the RSD “must have” for 2023. I do like the idea of procuring a copy of this for myself, but you know my hang ups about RSD and …. I have a face-to-face tutorial (aka School Day) on Record Store Day which sees me at Caledonian University from 10am until around 3.30pm so …. I’m not sure if those timings will allow me to queue at a store OR find myself a copy once the ‘School Day’ is done. We shall see. Also, the price I have seen on the Rough Trade website – they have it priced at £31.99 – which, for a single LP vinyl is, well, bloody extortionate is what it is! Compare it to the Hamish Hawk album I will be receiving soon (blue coloured vinyl – with a signed print and a lyric sheet of a song of Hamish’s choice) which was priced at £22.99 and, well – yep.
It does look nice though, and I don’t think I own anything in green vinyl, so that’ll be novel! The main selling point is that this is the very first time Neapolis has been available on vinyl.
