Well, at least ONE Gorbals boy anyway (not sure of Burchill’s origins before his family were rehomed at Toryglen – guess I’ll find out soon enough, if such info is revealed in the book?).
What am I on about? The news today that the run of Kerr/Burchill book launch dooberries is happening at the recently re-opened-after-a-big-refurbishment Citizens Theatre. I guess it’s as good a place as any. Host for the evening is old buddy, old pal, old chum, Billy Sloan.
There’s been a pre-sale this morning but all the tickets have already been snapped up, I’m afraid. I’m assuming with there being “pre-sales” that there will be general sale taking place from….tomorrow??? Not sure when to be honest. Here’s a link for info anyway: INFO HERE
I was planning on posting about this much earlier today and say that I’d probably be washing my hair that evening but then Sue got in touch with me and well …. my arm was twisted (it didn’t take THAT much twisting to be fair). I had only been thinking a few minutes before that had I wanted to go I’d hope there would be fresh anecdotal conversation and I wouldn’t have to sit through “I met Charlie on a sandpit, Glasgow was a wasteland (see what I did there?. Lol) for music at the time of punk, most people think the world stops at the end of their street,” etc, etc – ad nauseam. So now, I really DO hope the conversation will be refreshing and stimulating and not another night of “Kerr’s anecdotal/catchphrase bingo.” Perhaps I should print up bingo cards for me and Sue just in case? Lol. I’ll be too scared to accidentally shout out HOUSE at the top of my lungs when he rolls off the full set.
So, yep…I’m going. If nothing else, I’ll get to see the newly refurbed Citz with my own eyes. Never thought in a million years that my first venture to the Citz was going to be to see those two no-hopers. Lol
Bloody £33 for a ticket too, you shafting bastards! Supply and demand, eh?
It’s on a Sunday too, so I’ll have to get the 75 bus to Castlemilk – it’ll drop us off right at the door of the Citz and pick us back up directly opposite. Frigging Sunday events piss me off and all. The subway stops at 6.30pm on a Sunday, and the last train to Anniesland on the Maryhill line is at 6.33pm – so the bus really *IS* the only option (other than a taxi home…).
Craig Ferguson is doing exactly the same thing, playing the 02 Academy on a Sunday – thanks a lot you bunch!
Anyway, grumbling over. See you in around three weeks time…
