RIP Kenny Hyslop

Posted on September 17, 2024September 20, 2024 By Priptona 2 Comments on RIP Kenny Hyslop

Sad news in the Simple Minds community today, with the news that Kenny Hyslop has sadly passed away. In recent months Kenny had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, which he described as ‘the dreaded lurgy.’

An absolute drumming legend, playing for many, including Slik. His stint with Simple Minds may have been brief but was by no means insignificant. One could argue that Kenny played an integral role in Simple Minds achieving their first UK Top 20 success by introducing the rest of the band to the NY funk sounds of ‘Too Through’ and thus playing a funky beat on Promised You A Miracle. He also featured in the band’s two promo videos for Sweat In Bullet and Love Song.

Some of my favourite bootlegs involve Kenny on drums. Thanks for all the years, Kenny. You will be sadly missed.

Condolences to Kenny’s nearest and dearest.

I just logged in to ask about Kenny H as I knew about the lurgie but I thought, hoped he’d beat it. So sad to hear this news, lovely lad xox
