I have been looking into various acts that I could either go and see later in the year or who I could see within the next several weeks. The gigs I have coming up are non-existent for April (my one April gig – Sarah Brown in Edinburgh – has been cancelled. Goddamn!) but I do have some things pencilled in for May. First among them is the newly acquired Warm Digits headline gig in Hartlepool on May 5th. Then towards the end of the month is Sparks (May 26th) and the Lemon Twigs (May 29th). In the past few days I FINALLY secured a ticket to see the LEGEND that is Australian music icon Ian Moss (a member of Cold Chisel and then renowned solo artist in his own right) at Oran Mor on June 10th. Then I have a clear schedule until The Anchoress plays Edinburgh on September 22nd.
I keep looking into things to fill these gaps in the schedule. I really want to get gigging again. I really do love the whole live music thing. I have been looking into who I can see and I keep eyeing Brooke Combe’s gig at the QMU. I’d love to see her and the ticket price is great. I will get something booked for her when I next have funds. I’m worried that I am going to leave it so late that I’ll miss out on seeing her.
And just today, Hamish Hawk has announced a gig in Galashiels in June – the day before the Ian Moss gig! Tickets don’t go on sale until Friday but I have already been looking into the logistics of getting to Galashiels and back and OMG!!! A train from Edinburgh to Galashiels is only £12 return! YASSS! And it’s less than an hour away and I wouldn’t have to stay in Galashiels overnight so I am REALLY contemplating this one. Hamish is headlining the gig and I would REALLY love to see him headlining a show again. I was looking into other things he’s doing over the summer – festival slots and that but…they’re either miles away over the border in England and/or in rather inaccessible places. This Galashiels gig is ticking ALL the boxes! Although not exactly local, it’s still within Scotland and is fairly easy to get to and the venue is a short walk from the train station, etc, etc. I’m dead, DEAD excited at the prospect of seeing him again doing a headline show.
These shows are coming along in fits and starts and I do really hope I can get to see Hamish again.
I’m not sure if I’ll get to anything towards the end of the year. There are several gigs I am interested in. I looked into the prices for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds in December at the Hydro but for a good seat it’s £85 and for the next seating price it’s £65! Geez-o! The Chemical Brothers are at the Hydro as well and the ticket prices are better but they clash with Beverley Knight who’s playing the Armadillo on the same night. I looked into seeing Sleaford Mods as well, but they’re playing the O2 Academy which is on the Southside, which I’ve been a bit reluctant to go to – mostly about the ease of getting back from the venue afterwards than anything else. Also, I think a Sleaford Mods gig could, potentially, be a bit hairy!
We’ll see. We’ll see!
For now, here is the list of gigs coming up:
