In Praise Of “Our Secrets Are The Same”

Both Neapolis and OSATS camevup for discussion on one of the SM fan groups today. Brought up due to Charlie saying in an interview when asked if there were any SM albums he would want to go back and re-record, he mentioned these two. I like both albums, but particularly OSATS…here’s a recap on why.

Priptona's Simple Minds Space

Of the more “modern” Simple Minds albums, this one really does come around for regular play from me.

I get something from EVERY track on this album. The beauty I find most beguiling with Simple Minds is this ability to shine a light out from the darkness. They are not afraid to step into the dark, because, as I say, they can shoot beams of light from it.

The album’s opening track, Swimming Towards The Sun, is a prime example. “And it would be easy to become somebody else / but at this particular point in time I’ll hang on to myself” – I’d like to think that’s a little Bowie nod there from Mr Kevin Hunter (Hang On To Yourself being a track on The Rise And Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars).
