Well, I wasn’t sure if I should tempt fate by trying this version of the song out. There was the possibility that it might rectify the things I didn’t really like about the song, or at the very least just make it slightly more listenable.
To my surprise – a vast improvement! I can actually make out the lyrics and understand what Sarah is singing in the first verse. Jim’s voice sounds stronger and not like he’s ready for the knacker’s yard. All of it has been given the right tweaks and improvements and …. Dare I say I like it more now? No longer compelled to refer to it as “This Song is Shite”? (Sorry, but it is what I was calling it…privately…until now. Oops!)
Anyway, it can be purchased from Townsend Music as a digital download for £2.99 but I don’t think they really need my money. I’ve given them more than enough support financially over the past decade. I don’t think they’ll miss the pittance of their share of £2.99. For me personally – better it goes to artists just starting out or in their early years than a very well established band that has a nice nest egg from selling off their entire catalogue. Just saying. The Townsend Music bundle laso contains an instrumental version. Here’s the link for details: Townsend Music
It is a very good mix – whoever Pyramid Music are – good job, guys! You’ve actually managed to have me mildly enthused by it now after spending weeks trying to get rid of the fucker from out of my head! It was the most annoying earworm – you know, of the type you get for songs that grind your gears? Not a good earworm, but a bad one. But…I think it may just actually turn good. WHAT THE FUCK?!
I mean …. it’s still no Love Song or Premonition or even Glittering Prize but I’m not going to recoil in horror from now on. And thus – something positive for a change on the SM front.
Haha we’re all getting cynical as we get older. I’d happily spend £2.99 on a cup of tea and a pineapple cake ( from
Greggs) but for a digital download of a remix they can sook a big fart out my bumhole. For the record I like the sentiment of the song.
Lol. “They can sook a big fart out my bumhole” – fuck Scobes, you had me nearly choking I was laughing so much. But, aye. I’d rather a latte and a yum yum fae Greggs any day.
You’re being modest about your collection, I think!

You’ve got a spectacular collection there Larelle. Well, that’s what I think anyway.
I don’t think Jim would push wee Charlie off cause he needs someone to keep him company when he moves into that retirement home in the near future.
I’ve still to listen to my SDE blu-rays but by all accounts they are supposed to be fantastic. Looking forward to that!
I really wish they would get round to Sons/Sisters blu-ray sometime cause that would just be the icing on the cake as far as I was concerned. I’m sure the same for you?
My god when I think of the albums Empires And Dance through to New Gold Dream, that’s the Simple Minds band to me, right there!
Here’s hoping!
Oh, def. with you on the Sons/Sister blu-ray – or any kind of box set… but it looks like we’re going to whistle for it. A real shame
Give the £2.99 to your favourite charity?!

Buying Simple Minds stuff is like an addiction and I need weaned off buying it no matter how diluted down it is.
Anyway I’m more interested in what city skyline it is Jim’s looking down onto like he’s Batman or something?
Good call! Might see what I can find in Oxfam for that money (or a wee bit more).
I get the impression the skyline is some composite “mock” skyline. A friend of mine pondered why it was just Jim there and not Charlie and another suggested that CB had been pushed off by Mr Kerr. Lol. I mean, it would be hilarious if it didn’t feel like there could be an element of truth to it. I think my “buying addiction” has always been pretty much in check. I’m by no means a completist but I have a decent hoard of memorabilia. More original Virginia Turbett photos than any SM fan out there I should think – worth quite a packet too! I did buy into those SDE Atmos blu-rays of NGD and SITR. That’ll probably be the last “big” purchase I’ll make of their stuff.
