I’m sorry, but this quote that has been posted on the SM FB page given by Jim about the use of Waterfront as the 2024 tour opener? I just had to express my feelings on this. So, the quote went:
”Feeling we needed to begin each and every show with an bang, Waterfront was designed and calculated to do just that.” [sic]
Firstly – “an bang”???
Secondly….I don’t know why but that just sounds BAD to me. Like we were targets – sitting ducks ripe for exploitation. I mean…whaaaaa? It doesn’t sound very organic or visceral. Where’s the emotional charge in that? What happened to it being about Glasgow? What happened to it being a song that was a symbol for rising above or out of the depths of despair? So…it was all just ‘song by numbers’ now was it?
Yes! It can be an anthem. Yes, you can want it to have a particular reach. But to describe it becoming a gig opener as being ‘designed and calculated’ to do the job? Wow.
I don’t know. That just feels very cold and afronting to me. But we all know how I am, right? What do I know (about this world anyway)…
Perhaps I am taking it all too literally? If so, then maybe the quote needs rephrasing because at the moment, it sounds too detached.
Anyway, as you were. Happy weekend. Sorry for the intrusion. Lol.
