I’m up early this morning, in readiness for the final stint of study and assignment work. Uni breaks up for the summer officially on Thursday. I didn’t expect to have any headspace for this week’s MMM but I have a few minutes up my sleeve while I down my first morning coffee.
On pondering what to choose for today’s post, my mind wandered to Jim’s post last week, alluding to the announcement of the next tour this week. I was thinking about what my favourite song to hear live is…and it’s hands down, The American. Even when I was worried I wouldn’t enjoy it so much during the Acoustic Tour – it was absolutely ACE every time. Truth be told, I’m not a fan of the version on the Acoustic album, but at the gigs, it was a different beast.
Lately I’ve been playing the extended mix of the track in frequent rotation.
It was missing from the setlist last tour. I guess there was the decision it needed a break. I feel so bad for Sons/Sister that the 40th anniversary of those albums sailed on by through the pandemic with barely an acknowledgement of their absolute glory. NOT ON THIS BLOG! A t least on here, I made it as big a celebration as I possibly could. It really is something I am very proud of when it comes to this blog. The commitment and time I put in to celebrating those albums. If you missed it all – check out the link above (or in the dropdown menu – depending on your Internet browsing platform) for “Sons/Sister Celebration” content. I recently had a reply from Ross Stapleton, no less, reminiscing about his time spent with Jim at the Kensington Rooftop Gardens.
Anyway, I digress.
I hope that this gets back on the setlist for next tour and I hope The American(s) have something to celebrate with the tour announcement.
Happy MMM! Enjoy!
