there was an era where ladies would dramatically swoon and faint over singers (as described in that song “come on eileen”) like my boomer mom who said in her day she was head over heels for this horrible “johnny mathis” singer & other horrifically cringe crooners.
i think mr james may have been harnessing that a bit in (kind of tip of the hat to elvis) in his videos around this time.
