… to listen to the CDs I have purchased over the past couple of months – but have I? Nope! Today was going to be yet another one of these ‘magical’ days where I’d devote time to sitting and listening and enjoying some music that wasn’t a snatch of 20 minutes on Spotify before falling asleep. Best laid plans and all that.
Anyway, despite my inability to actually LISTEN to these CDs, I wanted to share some of my most recent purchases with you.
A few weeks back I invested in getting two CDs from Penfriend. She was offering up a free CD – a copy of her previous album which I had wanted to get and never got round to doing. As it was coming for free (only having to pay for p&p), I decided to add her most recent CD to the order as well. I really do like to support independent artists as much as I can, and Penfriend is as indie as they come.
Then last Saturday I collected my copy of Ist Ist’s new album from Assai in Glasgow. I just managed to squeeze in one full play of the album (on Spotify, of course!) before seeing the launch show in Edinburgh on Monday night. I still haven’t played the CD.
The day after the show I visited Missing Records with the desire to see if I could find any Twilight Sad CDs (or Vinyl) from them. No such luck but I didn’t leave the store empty handed. I bought 5 CDs for £13. Two of Travis’s early albums (The Man Who and The Invisible Band), a Tanita Tikaram album for the Other Half, a copy of The Cure’s Mixed Up and, Wingspan – The Best of Paul McCartney and Wings – a 2CD set and something I had once owned many moons ago.
That same evening I ordered a copy of It Won/t Be Like This All the Time by The Twilight Sad on eBay. I am absolutely LOVING this album so much and I am counting the bloody days in seeing them at the Barras in May.
What’s the point of this post? I dunno. I guess I just wanted to mention the music I have been WANTING to listen to lately, and have sorted listened to over the past few weeks because…I just did.
Music is still exciting me and I love it and I am really excited about the gigs I have coming up this year.
I’m not doing so well with uni and I have really taken my eye off the ball lately. I decided to take this week off in the hope that some time away will allow me to get back into focus from next week onwards. There’s not long to go now. Come the end of May, that’ll be me done with uni for the foreseeable. My Lemon Twigs gig will be my initial celebratory night out – being the night after uni is officially over for the academic year, and potentially for good for me personally.
I’m having one final day off tomorrow and it will really be my final chance for at least the next couple of weeks to listen to some of these CDs. I’ll post a wee update on how I get on.
Tara for now.
