Aix-Les-Bains – A Travellers View – Day One – One For “The Bucket List”.

That would imply that it had been “on” a bucket list. But not really. Never had even heard of the place until it was announced that Simple Minds was going to be on the bill at the Musilac Festival being held there. Also on the bill, though…Depeche Mode and The Stranglers. That was one SERIOUS…

Simple Minds – PGA Championship – Wentworth, Surrey – May 27th, 2018

A bad prep for me, personally…a terrible night’s sleep, scared to death through very thundery storms. Adding impending doom to the forecast of weather conditions for the day. Stormy weather potentially ALL DAY! The sun was out at daybreak, and all had settled. Was it the “calm before the storm”? Only time would tell. The…

Over You Review – Smash Hits, 15 May, 1980

No wonder it has always been my very favourite Roxy song!

Ruts DC – The Hat Factory, Luton – March 31st, 2018

My introduction to Ruts DC was with them being support to The Stranglers when seeing them last March at Cambridge Corn Exchange – and, well, conversely it was SM’s billing of support for them (The Stranglers) on the autumn arena leg of the Big Music tour that made me explore them more and go and…

Bowie Related Features In April’s Classic Pop – Ken Scott Interview And Reissued Vinyl Review

A great interview with Ken Scott, talking quite broadly about his time producing Bowie albums Hunky Dory, Ziggy, Aladdin Sane and Pin-Ups. Also a reissue review of the Low/Heroes/Lodger/Stage/Scary Monsters 180gm vinyl albums (for those of us who still haven’t bothered/won £500 on a scratch card to “invest” in ANCIANT box set). Can’t say I…

Art Of Noise – British Library, March 9th, 2018 – Review

How does one go about reviewing something they have very little knowledge of? Well, research, for one helps. But it would feel a cheat to do that…so I will review it with a novice approach. We queued for an hour. Quite WHY we queued, I’m unsure. Just, well, because the sign was there, a guy…

Franz Ferdinand – All Ages Matinee – Hippodrome, Kingston-upon-Thames, Feb 8th, 2018

A short personal review of my first ever Franz Ferdinand gig. I had wanted to see these guys since I first got into them back in 2004. It’s only taken me nearly 14 years…but I got there in the end! This gig, when I saw the details of it, sounded too good to be true!…

Walk Between Worlds – Prip’s Verdict? ALL KILLER NO FILLER

Where to begin? Magic – still believe it to be aptly named and a fabulous starter to the album. Just shining, catchy, poppy optimism in four and half minutes. Summer – that bass hook? Love it! We heard it WEEKS ago on a snippet clip of the reveal of the album’s release date. I mean…all…

Sense Of Discovery – My Discovery Of It

It was a song I…kind of avoided listening to over the past few years. I don’t really know why, for sure. Maybe an intuition? I’ve probably only listened to the Lostboy! version about three times in total. Perhaps something was telling me it was…incomplete…and that it would be reworked. I genuinely don’t know why I…

Walk Between Worlds – Mojo Review, March 2018

Yet another wholly good review for WBW. The wording is favourable (apart from the caning that Acoustic gets…OUCH! HARSH!) …but…a bit disappointed that it then converts to only 3 stars rather than 4…but, it’s good!
