Well, I wasn’t sure if I should tempt fate by trying this version of the song out. There was the possibility that it might rectify the things I didn’t really like about the song, or at the very least just make it slightly more listenable.
To my surprise – a vast improvement! I can actually make out the lyrics and understand what Sarah is singing in the first verse. Jim’s voice sounds stronger and not like he’s ready for the knacker’s yard. All of it has been given the right tweaks and improvements and …. Dare I say I like it more now? No longer compelled to refer to it as “This Song is Shite”? (Sorry, but it is what I was calling it…privately…until now. Oops!)
Anyway, it can be purchased from Townsend Music as a digital download for £2.99 but I don’t think they really need my money. I’ve given them more than enough support financially over the past decade. I don’t think they’ll miss the pittance of their share of £2.99. For me personally – better it goes to artists just starting out or in their early years than a very well established band that has a nice nest egg from selling off their entire catalogue. Just saying. The Townsend Music bundle laso contains an instrumental version. Here’s the link for details: Townsend Music
It is a very good mix – whoever Pyramid Music are – good job, guys! You’ve actually managed to have me mildly enthused by it now after spending weeks trying to get rid of the fucker from out of my head! It was the most annoying earworm – you know, of the type you get for songs that grind your gears? Not a good earworm, but a bad one. But…I think it may just actually turn good. WHAT THE FUCK?!
I mean …. it’s still no Love Song or Premonition or even Glittering Prize but I’m not going to recoil in horror from now on. And thus – something positive for a change on the SM front.
