Minds Music Monday – In Trance As Mission – In Celebration Of Imminent Anniversary of Sons And Fascination/Sister Feelings Call

When a song…and indeed a WHOLE ALBUM starts with the line “for just one moment in time I hear the holy backbeat” – then you know you’re in for something very special. The band were convinced of its merit as the opening track to the album, but Steve Hillage took a bit of convincing. He…

Auld Young Jim

Perusing old copies of Smash Hits…Jim is being questioned on whether he is INDEED 22 in the early months of 1982. Doesn’t help when your musical doppelganger (one Billy Currie) has already hit 30. Smash Hits reviews for Chelsea Girl and Life In A Day (Album). Fab reviews that initially go nowhere for the guys. But they don’t give up – nor should they!

review

Again – another fantastic review in Smash Hits for Empires And Dance this time. It gets 9/10 – and yet… Still…it’s 35 years on, why does it matter now.

review

Smash Hits reviews from Sons And Fascination/Sister Feelings Call era, 1981. Still takes them another 12 months to finally get a sniff of chart success. People just don’t know a good thing when they hear it!

Some interesting snippets from copies of Smash Hits magazine from 1979. First page shows news of SM having music from Real To Real used in a documentary. The other page shows a keen fan writing in and somewhat getting the wrong end of the stick as to what was happening. Love these kind of bits…
