Hopeful Melancholy
I enjoyed this short interview Jim had with Jacqui Neal, and her use of the term “hopeful melancholy” – that’s the phrase! Wow! The interview is short and sweet. Enjoy!

The clock ticked past midnight. I was feeling quite tired. I forced myself to stay awake as I really didn’t want to miss the opportunity to give Direction Of The Heart a listen upon its release. I had waited long enough and through not being privy to being allowed to review it prior to release,…
With just two days to go now until the release of Direction Of The Heart, Jim and Charlie have been busily promoting the album here, there and everywhere! A recent one for Jim saw him speaking to Jason Rockman. Some surprises up for discussion/pondering here! The next is one I have yet to listen to…
Backhandedly complimentary? Well, for a 6/10 it’s more kindly written than the Mojo review, I feel. It reads not too dissimilar to Electronic Sound’s review, yet ES does not give album ratings – which is very canny of them! Anyway…I think overall it is good, despite the rating saying otherwise.
The best review yet. This is how you do it! This fantastic example right here! Well done Anthony Thornton for the most positive review of the album I have seen in amongst the ones I’ve read til now. No factual inaccuracies. No cattiness. Just straight out positivity and constructive critique. If I were Jim and…
Two reviews in as many days and both of them with erroneous information. The first from Goldmine who stated that SM “changed managers” after bringing out Life In A Day. Really? News to me, Goldmine! Now this from Record Collector. A great review otherwise, but let down by the notion that one) Act Of Love…

THAT’S the title that Record Collector could (or SHOULD) have gone with for their piece on SM in their latest edition. There’s a great interview with Jim in there and … OH MY DAYS! HAPPY KERRSDAY! A Sheila Rock gem inside too (see pic)! A rare one for Sheila to get Jim covered up. Lol….
Jim talking to Steve and Tim Smith about 45 years in the biz, First You Jump, being a “brilliant Simple Minds singer” (Sarah should beg to differ! Lol. I’m being a wee cheeky cow!), forging the sound, early gigs, the gift that the punk movement gave them, air miles, Reggie Mael, and Inspector Montalbano all…

After last week’s gripe of sharing the first review I had seen for DOTH in Uncut magazine (a disappointing 6/10 rating), I’ll just post this here on my blog and let the other fans seek these out the, selves if they’re interested. Mojo have given the album a more positive four stars (akin to an 8/10)….

I hadn’t mentioned this in my previous post about Sheila Rock (“Jim’s not a poser”. Haha! In the strictest terms of how Sheila was defining “a poser” – then, yeah, he’s probably not one. I’ll give her that) but those photos she had been sharing on her Instagram account for the SAF photoshoot will be…
