Return To Oz Is Off

Sadly inevitable. Too much uncertainty around. And, for me, this tour was off last year – even though it had initially been rescheduled for the end of this year. I wasn’t going to be travelling there. And I had resigned myself to the fate of money squandered. I didn’t like my chances of selling my tickets on. So on a personal note, I am thankful for the tour cancellation because I know I will get refunds on my tickets now. I am grateful not to be resigned to swallowing up another loss of funds. Small mercies.

I feel for my friends there. Australia is a loooong way and not everyone can just get on a plane and travel to the other side of the world to see the band they love. A few Aussie fans have been fortunate to do that, but there are some who would never have those funds or opportunities. My heart really does go out to those guys.

I hope Simple Minds will make it back out there again sooner rather than later. In the meantime – don’t be disappointed with the band, or their management, or the promoters. They have done all they can to try and get these things to go ahead. They are losing their livelihoods and the live music scene around the world is on its knees! I know Jim and Charlie and the rest of the band will be as disappointed and disheartened as the fans.

It’s this bloody pandemic. It’s Coronavirus, Covid-19…whatever you want to call this absolute cockwomble of a thing! And government ineptitude by and large. You know, the whole world. EVERY COUNTRY could have done with the leadership of New Zealand. Every country could have done with a Jacinda Ardern as their leader. Had every country stayed locked like NZ did, then maybe just MAYBE we’d not be in the state we’re in right now the world over. But we’ll never really know.

I hope you are all staying safe and well.

Briefly In Other News…

Someone dropped THIS bombshell this morning as I was preparing my punk themed post…

You guys know where to get all the info from. You don’t need me to update you. This blog would be surplus to requirements if its purpose was to report Simple Minds news! Lol.

The band have that one covered on their social media. Anyways!

Well, wherever he and Charlie may be…it’s bearing fruit.

There they are, offering that “black light” to us. In the heart of darkness, they shine!

Concerts For Early In 2021 In Doubt?

This was posted a short time ago by promoters Regular Music on their Facebook page.

One can’t help but wonder if it is the first of many for next year’s gigs. And, as a truly sad indicator of where we are at, the concert been rescheduled but cancelled outright.

Simple Minds rescheduled their April Hydro gig to February next year. At the time of rescheduling, it seemed a far enough distance that things would have improved and that we’d have observed enough measures to get this virus to “jog on” but as the New Year gets closer, the cancelling of gigs feels inevitable.

“Embrace the suck” you say, Jim?! I’ve got to say that on one had I truly understand what you are saying with this term – but it doesn’t lend itself to being the most empathetic phrase.

The arts and entertainment sector is ON ITS KNEES. For many in the sector I’m sure “embrace the suck” is the last thing they want to hear.

Never In A Month Of Sundays…

Is I am guessing is the answer (re: title of the post). Well, I guess Jim is now also focusing on his tome and … I dunno. I really feel like it’s that petty fucking “no one’s the boss of me” BS at play or some shit. I dunno what it is…but I had the feeling that even from day ONE when fans started asking these kind of questions and putting these pleas out that Jim had absolutely NO INTEREST in doing this AT ALL.

Someone asked weeks back “how do you think we could get their attention on getting some kind of remote live thing happening?” And I replied with “get a GoFund me page going” because it seems the only language Jim understands sometimes. (The filthy lucre.) And I was honest! Because, that’s how it seems – and he doesn’t do much to counter that opinion with crass statements about going down to Oz in Newcastle because “we were offered a LOT of money” Well, bully for you, Jim. And guess who pays for it all, eh? Mugs like us. And that’s how you blatantly treat us, with statements like that! “Oh, you fools!”

Makes a mockery of that line you like to trot out time and again “We’d have paid YOU to play live when we got started.” Oh, really? Yeah…well, not fucking now. Money talks – and you love its language, Mr Kerr.

But, you know, even that idea this person proposed…a previously unseen gig – that wouldn’t even take you guys getting together. No Zoom meeting involved.

And, you know what? This thing doesn’t have to be put on for free, Jim. Some people actually put these things on behind a “pay wall”!! Piqued your interest yet, Mr Ker-ching? Just…don’t go printing money with it, right? Make it a nominal charge. Many people are struggling now. Jobs being forloughed, etc. Oh, imagine having to have to work for someone?! Yuk!

Now! Before you get too pissed off with me and think about blocking my arse again from SM FB – I KNOW I AM INCREDIBLY LUCKY – I saw you at Copenhagen! And you are not twisting my arm on going to ANY of your gigs, or buying ANY of your merch…I do it all of my own volition! This isn’t about me. It’s about the fans looking forward to gigs that were coming up that got cancelled. All the fans, the “REAL FANS” (if you insist!) that missed out this year.

Lift their spirits, man! GIVE THEM SOMETHING! You must have recorded at least ONE 40 Years Live gig before Coronavirus put the kibosh on 2020. What say you, Jim?
