Jim on Absolute Radio – Show 2

It was a lovely mix this week (week one was great too, and it’s only now do I realise I should have done a review of it. I’ll do one later today, perhaps).

There was a bit of everything. Sheer get-up-out-of-your-chair-and-have-a-big-old-dance with Nutbush City Limits. A 1990s protest and celebration of mediocrity and modernity from the Manics. Tender love and pain from The Pretenders. An ode to New York from Joe Jackson.

There was an obvious technical hiccup when it aired on Saturday night GMT, as the last 12 or so minutes got cut off. This was rectified with the podcast.

Songs missed were Bat For Lashes’s Laura, The Jam’s That’s Entertainment, and Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love (ooh er Mrs, what a way to end a show!).

The Boy does have very good taste in music…as if there was ANY doubt.

The standout this week was, for me, War On Drugs. He played Under The Pressure. And it reminded me of something. And it had been bugging me and it only JUST came to me! Musically, it reminds me of Lindsey Buckingham’s Trouble. (I’ve just gone off to tell him as much…like he needs to know!) But just in a musical sense. Just the melody.

But, yes. The show is very much worth a listen. I feel a sense of bereavement already that there are only two shows to go! That same sense of bereavement when I’m at a Minds gig and I know it’s going to come to an end…and we’ve only just got to the break…or halfway through the setlist.

Anyway, you can listen to show two here – Jim Kerr on Absolute Radio
